FIDO’s Companion is not just a dog rescue that takes in abandoned, unwanted, neglected and abused dogs from high kill shelters. We understand that part of our rescue work has to be committed to educating and touching the lives of our community’s citizens. Therefore, in early 2008 we started our Outreach Work in Local Schools and Youth Groups and in Nursing/Assisted Living Facilities in Lorain County.
Our primary mission is and always will be rescuing dogs from the Lorain County Dog Pound and other high kill pounds before they are euthanized. Our passion is providing our rescued dogs with top quality care and restoring their health and finding new homes for their lifetime.
We also use our funds to support other local rescuers to spay/neuter and save more homeless animals including TNR of feral cats.
Our secondary focus is providing community education in Lorain County. Audiences include schools, scout troops, churches, seniors groups, community organizations. We will never be able to rescue or shelter our way out of pet overpopulation, therefore it is imperative to educate our youth and overall community about the importance of spay & neuter and basic animal care in order to stop the pet overpopulation, neglect and abuse problems.
Our Board of Directors are also very involved with local efforts to work with our County Administration to improve conditions at our pound and in our county for animals.
The third component of our mission is restoring and maintaining animals to the lives of people who would benefit from having animal contact and companionship. We recognize animals are therapeutic and take our dogs several times a month to local Nursing and Assisted Living Facilities to allow them to engage with their residents.
